Beach House 3

I'm a little late to the party but better late than never. I meant to discuss this album the week it was released but there was so much that happened in the world of sports Ty Dolla $ign had to take a back seat for a little bit. But this is going to be my album review for Ty Dolla $ign's Beach House 3.

Ty Dolla $ign was plagued during the process of making this album of only being a one-hit wonder, gaining fame off of collaborative singles such as "Or Nah" and "Swalla," but never actually releasing any music that could be well received by a general audience, or anything that could withstand the tests of time. He was able to conquer his one-hit woes with his second studio album, 20 track, star-studded album in Beach House 3.

The album was welcomed by generally positive reviews and managed to make some quick appearances on Spotify's US Top 50 and also had a few songs incorporated into several Spotify generated playlists. It featured several different A-list hip-hop artists such as Future, YG, Torey Lanez, Pharell Williams and Lil Wayne. I've spent the past several days listening to the album myself and have my own opinions.

Ty Dolla $ign is able to fuse his smooth voice with contemporary R&B and Hip-Hop in just about every song on this track. Through the first listen, everything sounded very pleasant to the ear, it was relaxing, exhilarating and intimate. However, listening to the album a second time through I realized the lyrics in the songs were pretty obnoxious, overtly shallow and falls into the cliche of mainstream Hip-Hop. He sings of how everyone apparently wants to be famous in the opening song of the album, "Famous". Throughout the album, he also speaks of how he texts his main girl that he won't be coming home some nights but to not judge him for it, then says in a later song that he doesn’t want his girl to cheat on him, and if she does, to not tell him.

In conclusion, I do feel like this is Ty Dolla $igns best work though. I really didn't expect much from him when he dropped the album and wasn't really all too shocked when he fell into the trap of mainstream cliches. With that being said I can say that I could enjoy it simply because I never expected more from Ty than what he was able to deliver.

If you have Spotify I'd recommend a listen to the album, specifically the song "Love U Better." With all that being said I would give the album 3/5 stars.
