. . . So About Last Weekend

I told myself that I would write about something other than sports for this week's blog but we just came off of one of the greatest sports weekends of the year so I have to discuss everything that happened. From the World Series to college football, to the NFL, as a sports fan, you cannot be disappointed with the games and sporting narratives that have transpired over the past three days.
Let's begin the conversation in order of events. First things first, the Ohio State Buckeyes put up one of the greatest games of the year hosting Penn State and Saquon Barkley. Penn State walked into the Big House (Ohio State's stadium) with their head coach making efforts to psyche out the players and coaches by trying to get the team to change their uniforms last second, which were uniforms everyone was looking forward to wearing that game. He also made several comments about the past matchups between Ohio State and Penn State saying that Ohio State's wins were "lucky," and he has not been giving them enough recognition when asked about Ohio State in his pregame press conferences. Now, early on in this game all of his pregame shenanigans seemed completely justified. Early Heisman favorite, Saquon Barkley returned a 97-yd kickoff for a TD and on Ohio State's next possession the Buckeye's offense fumbled the ball, allowing Penn State to have a short field for a quick score putting them up 14-0. Ohio State went through extreme stretches of adversity throughout the game, having issues on offense, defense, and special teams. At one point, Penn State had a 97.2% chance of winning the game, but the Buckeyes showed unprecedented grit and determination throughout this game. Outside of the kick return, the Buckeyes defense held the sensation Saquon Barkley to only 44 yards on 21 carries. Which essentially made the Penn State offense one dimensional, therefore, creating just enough leeway for the Buckeyes to mount a comeback and win the game in a sensational fashion. This will be a college football Game of the Year.
The second game that needs to be discussed in this blog post is the Houston Texans at the Seattle Seahawks. This game will definitely be a game of the year nominee at the end of the NFL season. Now, I'm a 49ers fan so watching this game was infuriating to me just because I knew Seattle was going to win no matter when, or how much, they were down. But this game was fantastic simply because there have only been a few games where we have gotten such a display of elite level football. It was electric, it was exciting, it was emotional. Russel Wilson and Deshaun Watson are almost mirrors of one another and this was the first time in NFL history that we have seen two quarterbacks put up 400+ passing yards and 30+rushing yards against one another in the same game. Deshaun Watson arguably locked up the Rookie of the Year Award for himself through this performance alone. He has received extremely high praise from the Seattle veteran defense, saying that he put up the best performance by any QB they have ever faced.
The last game I want to talk about is the World Series game 5. This game was one for the record books, many analysts saying that this was one of the greatest World Series games of all time. The game lasted a total of 5 hours and 17 minutes and held the audience's attention throughout the whole game. The game featured multiple comebacks throughout the game as the Houston Astros took a 3-2 lead in a thrilling fashion scoring 13 runs and a walk-off single in the 10th inning.
If you're a fan of sports you should be elated at the weekend we just experienced and the level of play that was displayed, as I was.
